How to Make Your Giving Tuesday Fundraising Campaign the One People (Actually) Remember

Read time: 3-4 minutes

Every year, Giving Tuesday arrives like a flood.

Hundreds of emails. Dozens of social posts. Appeal after appeal, all saying some version of the same thing. Honestly? So much of it blurs together.

That’s not a knock on the organizations behind those campaigns. It’s just the reality of a very crowded day. The goal this year isn’t to be louder than everyone else. It’s to give people something clear, specific, and memorable to latch onto.

In this week's Changemaker Mondays ☀️ ☕ 🌍, I am bringing you three fresh, practical ways to make your Giving Tuesday campaign more memorable by being more specific, more human, and a little bit different.

Changemaker Mondays is brought to you by:

Strong donor relationships are the backbone of your nonprofit’s success - but keeping supporters engaged takes ongoing effort. That’s where our sponsor, Click & Pledge, comes in. Their platform makes it simple to cultivate donors and encourage giving online, all at a price point built for nonprofits.

With Click & Pledge, you’ll get professional-grade tools to power your fundraising, including customizable peer-to-peer campaign pages, donor portals for managing accounts and transactions, text-to-give options, and even virtual event and video fundraising. Plus, their guides and templates help you launch successful campaigns during giving season and beyond.

Best of all, every feature is included—no contracts, no hidden add-on fees. And unlike other platforms, Click & Pledge’s pricing stays the same whether you have 10 donors or 10,000.

Tip 1: Pick One Clear Lane for the Day

Trying to make your campaign do everything is one of the most common pitfalls of Giving Tuesday. Raise awareness AND new donors AND social engagement AND increase donations. That’s a lot to ask of one day.

This year, pick one focused angle and own it. A few that work really well:

  • A match day, where every gift is doubled for the full 24 hours.
  • A micro-goal, like raising enough for one specific, tangible thing.
  • An insider day, where you pull back the curtain on the real work.
  • A “fund the unfunded” campaign, spotlighting the overlooked costs that keep the mission going.

You don’t have to be everything to everyone. You just have to be really clear about one thing. That clarity is what people remember.

💡Try this: Before you plan anything else, ask: if someone could only say one sentence about our campaign this year, what would I want it to be?

Tip 2: Make Participation More Interesting Than Clicking a Link

Giving is a pretty passive experience for most donors. They click, they get a confirmation email, and that’s kind of it.

What if it felt like being part of something instead?

Some simple interactive ideas:

  • Let donors vote or choose between two real needs.
  • Offer up different “units of impact” (“Donate X to help 10; Donate Y to help 30”)
  • Let people dedicate a gift in honor of someone connected to your work.
  • Use a visible progress tracker so small gifts feel like they’re genuinely moving something forward.

None of these needs a big budget. They just need a little creativity and a willingness to invite people in rather than just asking them to transact.

💡Try this: Think of one small way giving could feel more like participating this Giving Tuesday. Even one interactive element can make your campaign feel completely different from everything else in someone’s inbox.

Tip 3: Use the Weird, Specific, Human Details Only You Can Share

This one is my favorite. Every organization has details so specific and so inside that they never make it into the polished campaign copy. Those details are often the most compelling things you could share.

The odd supply item you always run out of first. The behind-the-scenes task that happens every day that donors never see. The “unsexy” cost that makes everything else possible. The tiny moment your staff wishes donors could witness.

Anyone can say, “Your gift changes lives.” Only you can say, “We go through 200 pairs of socks every month and have never once had enough.” That specificity is your superpower.

💡Try this: Ask your team this week: what’s something about the daily work that donors would be surprised to know? The answers might just become the heart of your campaign.

Try it this week 🚀

Pick one of these three ideas and think about how it fits your organization. You don’t need a huge audience or a glossy campaign to stand out. You just need to be clear, concrete, and unmistakably you. Nobody else can compete with that!

💲Funding Opportunities

  • Check In: The Ewing Marion Kaufman Foundation final grant of the year should be open for project proposal, but you can take their eligibility test anytime to plan ahead for the next year. Annual grant opportunities include cycles for projects, capacity, research, or collective impact. They aim to "support local, regional, and national changemakers to unlock learner potential, clear the path and remove barriers, and rethink the future of work and learning." As of 2026, strategic focus areas are "college access and completion, workforce and career development, and entrepreneurship."
  • By October 31: The Lawrence Foundation is offering a hard-to-miss opportunity for unrestricted funding to support a project, program, or general operating costs. Awardees must support one of three buckets: the environment, human services, or disaster relief. Grants range from $5,000 to $10,000. Fortunately, this opportunity may also cover "reasonable indirect costs," with a recommendation of 50% or less.
  • Through November 1: Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation provides funding to "innovative projects that help youth with disabilities" develop leadership and employment skills. Mitsubishi defines youth as individuals up to age 26. Proposed projects should be national (or hope to become a model for others in the U.S.) and begin April 2027.
